Director’s Statement
“In crafting this film, I draw inspiration from my upbringing in the United States, offering a narrative lens that unfolds through my mother's eyes. The narrative is a heartfelt exploration of her choices, especially the pivotal decision to stay—a testament to her unwavering commitment. Though my mother passed away from cancer when I was 19, the impact of her sacrifices during those formative years shaped the person I am today and became the beating heart of this story.
In the backdrop of the narrative, Hema's struggle to adapt to her new environment is intensified by the constraints of the H4 visa. This legal status limits immigrant spouses from pursuing professional opportunities upon their arrival in the United States, often reinforcing a reliance on their working spouses.
Through this film, I aim to capture the essence of her strength, resilience, and the deep well of love that fueled her choices. It stands as a tribute to the untold stories of countless mothers navigating the complexities of immigrant life with courage and grace. This project transcends a personal narrative; it is a universal exploration of the enduring spirit of motherhood—a celebration of sacrifices and a reflection on the profound influence shaping our lives even after our loved ones are gone.” - Ritvik Dhavale
